Broker CSV and ACB guides

Find the right activity export and check it against your pooled Canadian adjusted cost base.

Choose your brokerage for an export and reconciliation walkthrough. These guides explain the supported file format, the fields to check in an import preview, and the differences that can arise between a broker’s records and a taxpayer’s complete ACB pool.

Each guide combines the broker’s public export instructions with the myCostBase mapping. Keep an untouched copy of the original file and review transaction dates, quantities, commissions, and currencies before committing an import. A file that starts after your first purchase may need earlier records or a supported opening balance.

Match the file to the task

Activity history supplies transactions. A holdings report supplies a snapshot. A T5008 supplies disposition information for a tax year. Those records complement one another, but they are not interchangeable import formats. Select the workflow that matches the actual file you downloaded.

After importing, reconcile closing quantities with your statements and review ETF adjustments, transfers, and outside holdings. Identical property held under the same taxable ownership can belong to one pool even when it appears in several accounts. Preserve the account references so you can trace each event without splitting that tax pool.

See all supported brokers for coverage and beta restrictions, including brokers whose detailed walkthrough is not yet available. The importing guide explains the shared preview process, while the T5008 checker helps investigate a completed sale. No direct brokerage connection or brokerage password is required.
